Configure a VICIdial Trunk

Intro to VICIdial

VICIdial is an enterprise class, open source, contact center suite in use by many large call centers around the world. It has over 14,000 registered installations in over 100 countries around the world. The official releases of VICIdial have been downloaded over 25,000 times in the last year alone. This article guides you on how to configure this PBX for making and receiving calls over the internet through a next generation carrier like Telnyx!

If you haven't already, you'll need to set up a Telnyx Mission Control Portal account and create a Credential Based SIP Connection. If you need some help, take a look at the demo from our solutions engineer, Stephen.

VICIdial Prerequisites

  1. Download VICIdial - VICIdial's is available to download from here.
  2. Install VICIdial - You can view the installation notes and guide here.
  3. Configure Your Telnyx Mission Control Portal

Once you've configured your Telnyx connections, you can now proceed to setup VICIdial following the guide below.

VICIdial Trunks Setup Guide


  1. Log into the VICIdial web portal.
  2. Navigate to: Admin > Carriers > Add new carrier.
  3. Enter the following information:
Carrier ID: Telnyx
Carrier Name: telnyx
Template ID: NONE
Reg string: register => your_user_name:[email protected]:5060
Account Entry: [telnyx]
Protocol: SIP
Global String: Telnyx=SIP/telnyx

Dial Plan:
exten => _9NXXXXXXXXXX,1,AGI(agi://
exten => _9NXXXXXXXXXX,2,Dial(${Telnyx}/${EXTEN:1},60,tTor)
exten => _9NXXXXXXXXXX,3,Hangup

Note: In this case, 9 is the prefix that will be dialed to send calls to Telnyx's trunk.

That's it, you've now completed the configuration of VICIdial and can now make and receive calls by using Telnyx as your SIP provider!
