# Run as a Service

> Install the tunnel process as a system service that starts at boot and restarts on failure.

`telnyx-edge tunnel service install` installs the tunnel process as a system service, with systemd on Linux and launchd on macOS. The service starts at boot and restarts on failure:

```bash Tunnel host theme={null}
sudo telnyx-edge tunnel service install --token tnl_…
```

The token is written to a file that only root can read, and nothing else is stored on the host. Installing a system service needs administrator rights. Running the tunnel process [does not](https://developers.telnyx.com/docs/network/tunnel/concepts/what-it-is.md#no-root).

`status` reports the service, and `uninstall` removes it:

```bash Tunnel host theme={null}
sudo telnyx-edge tunnel service status
sudo telnyx-edge tunnel service uninstall
```

After a [token rotation](https://developers.telnyx.com/docs/network/tunnel/concepts/lifecycle.md#tunnel-token), `install` with the new token replaces the stored one.
