# Actor observability

> Observe StatefulActor types with runtime and invocation logs, and request/resource metrics.

Edge Compute provides visibility into StatefulActor execution through actor logs and actor metrics. Use the CLI for day-to-day debugging; both commands accept a type name or id (resolved like `actors inspect`) and read a fixed window of history — read-only reports, not live streams.

## What you can observe

| Area | What it tells you | CLI |
| - | - | - |
| Runtime logs | The `console.log`/`error` output your method bodies write | `telnyx-edge actors logs <type> --type runtime` |
| Invocation logs | One platform-generated record per method call (auto-RPC, `fetch()`, `alarm()`): instance, method, outcome, duration | `telnyx-edge actors logs <type> --type invocations` |
| Metrics | Request counts and success/error rates, latency, request/response bytes, CPU, memory, and stored state size | `telnyx-edge actors metrics <type>` |

Both commands require CLI v0.5.8 or newer.

## Related surfaces

Function-level observability — for the functions that hold the actor bindings — lives in [Edge Compute observability](/docs/edge-compute/observability): function logs, function metrics, deployment history, and health checks. Actor types themselves have no deployment lifecycle to inspect; their runtime hosts are managed by the platform.
