# now()

> `protected` **now**(): `number`

Time source for the scheduler.

Override in tests for a deterministic clock; every scheduling decision
(`queue` / `schedule` / `every` / task draining) reads time through it.

**Returns**

`number`

The current time in epoch milliseconds.

**Default Value**

`Date.now()`
