# Target Behind a Subnet Router

> A WireGuard peer routes a subnet of the user's network, so an Agent Gateway instance reaches the targets there at their own addresses.

A WireGuard peer of the Agent Gateway instance's [*Network*](https://developers.telnyx.com/docs/network/overview.md) acts as a subnet router for the user's network. The targets behind it need no WireGuard of their own, and the instance reaches each one at its own address.

## Add the Router

The router joins the *Network* the same way as a [target's host](https://developers.telnyx.com/docs/agent-gateway/vpc/wireguard-peers/target-as-peer.md#add-the-host). It forwards traffic between the *Network* and the subnet.

## Route the Subnet

[`POST /v2/network_routes`](https://developers.telnyx.com/api-reference/network-routes/create-a-network-route) sends the subnet to the router:

```json theme={null}
{
  "network_id": "f34f3c3a-c3a2-4fc9-a2bc-c4c739fa1739",
  "cidr": "10.60.0.0/16",
  "next_hop": { "type": "wireguard_peer", "id": "b26a6774-f07c-4c1b-b3a1-c1eedd09290c" }
}
```

## Add the Target

[`POST /v2/agent_gateways/{id}/mcp_servers`](https://developers.telnyx.com/api-reference/agent-gateway-mcp-servers/add-an-mcp-server) adds the target by its own address:

```json theme={null}
{
  "name": "orders",
  "url": "http://10.60.3.7:9000/mcp",
  "auth": { "type": "api_key", "value": "example-orders-key" }
}
```
